Stories on Cloth
I tell stories and make sense of the world with a needle, fabric, and thread
I tell stories and make sense of the world with a needle, fabric, and thread
A self-taught artist, I have been playing with needles since I was a child, starting with knitting, cross stitch, and needlepoint. Along the way, I discovered that I also like to draw. These interests come together in the free-form embroidery quilts I now make to explore the worlds inside and outside of my mind and body.
Through years of experimentation, I was able to determine that I like simple media: pens, watercolor paints, threads, and cotton or linen fabrics. In a world where most things are manufactured or virtual, I chose to immerse myself in the tangible.
I am often drawn to the built environment and to words, both my own and others. Everything made by the human hand is a clue to what we are doing here and whether we are doing it well.
